EECA was established in 2000 to encourage, promote and support energy efficiency, energy conservation and the use of renewable sources of energy. Our desired outcome is for New Zealand to have a sustainable energy system that supports the prosperity and well-being of current and future generations. Our purpose is to mobilise New Zealanders to be world leaders in clean and clever energy use.

We improve the use of sustainable energy across the economy through a combination of direct interventions, such as regulation and funding-provision, and influence, such as marketing, behaviour change and expert advice.
